Oct 6 - 8, 2017 Workshop in Fort Collins, CO: Dyeing and Printing with Natural Plant Materials

More than a bundle of fun to be had at this weekend long dyeing and printing workshop in the beautiful foothills of northern Colorado.
Join Ayn and Barbara at their well equipped home studios and outdoor dyeing deck for a packed weekend of experimenting and creating.

Experience the magic and surprise of color and mark that can be achieved on cloth through the alchemy of water, plant materials, heat, and metal. While many natural dye workshops teach about either natural plant dyes OR printing with plants, in this workshop you will learn about BOTH dyeing with natural plant dyes AND printing with natural plant materials.

Students will learn the basics of natural plant dyeing & printing including:
- How to use plants, water and heat to obtain color and marks/prints on fabrics.
- What colors can be achieved from which types of plant dyes.
- The many variables that affect the color outcomes (water, type of fabric, type of pot used, type of plant material, mordants used, how much heat for how long, etc.)
- Mordants: different types of mordants, how/when to apply, and affects of using them on color outcome.
